Houston Dining Options

Dallas and Houston have been locked in friendly competition for years to determine which Texas city with the best restaurants. Houston’s commitment to excellent cuisine really shows: The New York Times reports that Houstonites spend more money per capita on dining than any other city in the U.S. Many people leave Houston with a new palette that demands higher quality food and unique dishes.

Houston Dining: Barbeque

If you love barbeque, then you’ll never want to leave Houston. Much of Houston dining is based on finding the absolute best ways to season and cook meat. Sometimes it seems that you can find an excellent barbeque joint on just about every corner. Not all of them, of course, can be the best. It’s worth your while to pick a couple and enjoy the best barbeque that Houston dining has to offer.

Burns Bar BQ routinely wins awards for the best barbeque in town. Burns does not have an indoor dining area because it chooses to focus on carry-out service. They do, however, have a few picnic tables where diners can enjoy reasonably price barbeque and sides.

Pappa’s Bar-B-Q is another excellent choice. This Houston dining establishment focuses on huge portions of delicious food sold at affordable prices. The lines can get pretty long, especially during lunchtime, so be prepared to wait for a table. You’ll find that the juicy meat is a fair reward for your patience.

Houston Dining: Vegetarian

After gorging on barbeque, you might want to avoid meat for a while. This presents the perfect opportunity to enjoy one of Houston’s excellent vegetarian restaurants. You might not pair Houston dining with vegetarianism, but the meat-centered cuisine there has created demand from vegetarians who want delicious food without the animals.

Field of Greens stands out as one of the top vegetarian-friendly restaurants in Houston. Many of the dishes are 100 percent vegan, but you can also order seafood. Some of the most enticing dishes on the menu include a vegan Caesar salad, a vegan fish taco platter, and the vegan BBQ sandwich. All of the items are extremely affordable and prepared with the healthiest ingredients possible.

Houston Dining: Mexican

If you are in the mood for Mexican cuisine, then the Houston dining world offers plenty of options for you. These restaurants feature much more than the typical beef, bean, and cheese combinations that make many Mexican restaurants boring.

Pico’s Mex-Mex Restaurant offers regular specials that deviate from typical Mexican food. Choosing the daily specials ensures that you get the freshest ingredients and that your food is prepared perfectly. Many people had decided that Pico’s has the absolute best Mexican food in Houston.

Pico’s, however, gets a lot of competition from Molina’s Cantina. There are a few locations spread out through the city, but they resist the temptation to fall into the mediocrity of many chain restaurants. The food ranges from traditional to innovative, and they have one of the most delicious margaritas in town.
